$0/month to $500/month in 6 months
This is about one of my friend who is doing his automobile engineering and is still a student. He contacted me about 6 months back asking whether he can earn money on the net without spending a single penny. I thought a lot about it and this was my reply to him:
Hi *******,
Ya, surely you can do that. But I think it will take much more time to do that. May be an year or two. Take following steps, if you don’t want to spend any money:
- Create a blog on http://www.blogspot.com on the subject of your choice (please choose a subject which interests you).
- Use some neat and clean template and put your Google Adsense code on it to earn the dollars.
- Give one hour every day to your blog and try to write two GOOD posts (current events, news, reviews etc) on the topic.
- Submit each of your post to all the famous bookmarking sites like digg, netscape etc. (this will take extra 10 mins)
- Go everyday to http://forums.digitalpoint.com/forumdisplay.php?f=65 and see the NEW DIRECTORY ANNOUNCEMENTS in the section. Submit your site to two new directories every day free of cost.
- Register with some forums in your niche and put your website URL in your signature. Use the forum everyday for half an hour and interact with people in the forum
- When you start getting some traffic from bookmarking sites or forum threads or search engines, you will be making some money out of it in Google Adsense.
- When you get your first $10, start hunting for cheap links for your blog. Remember to get ONLY related links. Please remember to put all your money back into the site (promoting it) for quite some long time. Then will only it will rise.
- Get more and more links when you get more and more money. That will give you more and more traffic. Which means more and more money.
So these are the steps I think I can tell you. Do let me know if you actually plan to follow them.
![]()
So the main points here were to get some free traffic first, which will make you some money, use that money to get some paid links, which will increase your traffic further.
Yesterday I was discussing with him like how is his project going. So he showed me his Google Adsense for the last month (6th month). In his 6th month he made around $502. But he has put in all the money he has earned back into his blogs promotion.
Today his 300+ post strong blog (niche: cars specs and news) gets around 1200 uniques per day and make him around $500/month. He says, he still does not need any money right now, so he will be using all his money back into his blog for next 6 months.:)
Well done.

Good basic steps to take and well layout in simple enough terms there. Much congrats to your friend too!
I see you have also mentioned Http://forums.digitalpoint.com. I would be advising anyone who is serious about making any kind of solid income online to do more than just look for free directories there. A few hours a week scanning those boards, asking a few questions and answering a few if you can too and you will reap plenty of rewards. The amount I have learned there (or should I say AM learning there) is unreal. I guess there are of course other similiar forums out there but I think you’ve mentioned the best in my opinion.
I think people should be thinking about getting from

…. 20 bucks to 500 a month in six months instead of from zero to 500. Having you own domain name and (cheap) hosting account from the offset will be of great benefit along the way.

That’s an inspirational story.
I have a dilemma - I am on Dreamhost right now, just bought an account there last month.
I could get back the $30 I spent(money-back guarantee). Plus around $100 from the earnings so far.
Should I spent that combined total for a good host, and continue blogging, or spend the money($100) for promotion, and stay on DH?

Jim, those are some really good tips. Even if you submit to a couple of directories everyday , you can get yourself listed on about 700+ in a year which will surely help improve on serps.

I dont know about some of the tips man. I reckon if you want to be a professional and earn money online then you need some hosting and a domain of your own.

This is a great way to get started but a free blog with adsense as the only income source has limitations.
Also work on ranking well with the search engines this will bring alot of visitors your way.

I am doing affiliate marketing and averaging low 4 figures a month. I never touched adsense much. I dont know why, but may be because once adsense closed my account and I got disappointed.
After reading this post I am inspired to start a blog. I got a great domain - http://www.blogofme.com
I will work enough so that I get atleast $1000/month from adsense.

1200 uniques/day and only $500/month? That’s not very good.
And submitting your link to all the junk article directories is not that good either, it will hurt your search engine rankings.

[…] BANS and PHPBayPro Sales Some of you, who regularly visit my blog may remember that around 10 days back I made a post about whether you have tried BANS and PHPBayPro. I also mentioned in that thread that I will try it too. I gave it a try and I did see some quick results in just 10 days. I created two new websites. One is using BANS and the other is based on PHPBayPro and Wordpress. Both of these sites were created on around 6 months old websites which was already using my link strategies and was have a page rank of 2. Both of these sites already have few back links pointing to them. I started the site on 5th of February. Added some unique content. Provided some back-links to some of the internal pages from my directories. Submitted sitemap to Google. Within a week, both of these sites has at-least one thousand+ pages listed in Google. 2 days back, I made my first sale with the BANS site. Rirst sale for PHPBayPro site came yesterday. Till the writing of this post, I have I 4 sales with BANS site and one with PHPBayPro. I am expecting the sales to grow with time as I am adding more and more unique content to the sites and more and more pages are being indexed. Please remember that there are many similar sites available online. So you have to provide some value to your site by adding good unique content to it. Without it, these sites may not work wonders. So, do I recommend these products to others? Yes, I highly recommed BANS which is working great for me. I also recommend PHPBayPro for people who are already familiar with Wordpress blog software and would like to stick to it and make money. […]
