$500 in 5 Days for One Hour Work
I have not used Google Adwords from a long time to earn money from PPC based affiliate marketing. But recently I decided to give it a try and see how it works for me. I gave it a try and I made $500+ profit in 5 days for that one hour of my work. This post is about, how did I do it. I am sure you can do that as well very easily.
Here is how I went about doing it. This is step-by-step information on what I did exactly:
- First of all I registered a new account with Adwords and got $50 in free credit. Here is my older post about how can you get that free credit (valid only for new accounts).
- Next task was to find a good program which is high in demand, convert quite well, and does not have much competition. I did a lot of research to find out that online degrees is a niche which is high in demand, but has quite strong competition in PPC terms. And then, I found this program called Instant Degrees which is also in online degrees league but it is totally different concept and does not have ANY competition. So I decided to give it a try.
- I checked their affiliate program which pays 30% of the sale amount (means commission of: min: $36 and max: $63). That looked quite good to me. So I registered with their affiliate program (which is there on their homepage). Hired a sales writer and created a great landing page website.
- Then I setup my Adwords campaign with 3 AdGroups and around 10 different ads to see which type of ads works best. My daily budget was set to $100. Then my campaigns went live.
- For the first day, I got only two signup with a commission of $93 in total on my spend of $98. So that was a loss of around $5
- After seeing the results for 24 hours, I tweaked my campaigns and removed some non-performing ads and keywords. And for the day I got 5 signups and a commission of $199.5. Wow, that was good. I was happy, I knew I have hit the jackpot. So, I tweaked my campaigns little bit more and increased my budget.
- So overall in 5 days, I had spent around $800 and received commission of around $1600+ with Instant Degrees. After reducing the one time cost of the domain/hosting and sales letter on landing page, and also, after adding $50 free credit I got, it is clear profit of $500 in 5 days.
- Overall, I spent one hour on the first day and around 20 minutes for next 2 days to optimize my campaigns. Thats it. Now its on auto-pilot. I am expecting to make $100 to $150 per day with it. Lets see how it goes, I will update the post later as well to report my earnings on it.
- I used to same technique at Yahoo Search Marketing as well. There also I earned some money, which is not included in this $500. You can also get $100 free with yahoo search marketing. I have a post here about getting $100 free with them.
So, is it that easy to earn? Well, may be yes, may be no. There are few things you need to remember.
First of all, you need to research quite aggressively to find the right niche with high demand and less competition on Adwords. Find the right affiliate to advertise. I used instant degrees and you can use them as well.
Put some time on keyword research and find some good long tail keywords to bid on. Those long tail keywords converts quite well.
Create a very good landing page. This is the most important and difficult task to be done. So hire a very good sale copyrighter for this task. When I was creating the page for “Instant Degrees”, I had some different kind of challenges. This program looks too good to be true. The first impression the person gets is how in this world you can get a degree without studying. So I had following tasks on my landing page to be performed:
- Explain the visitor what it is about and how exactly it works.
- Convince the visitor that this is actually legitimate, as it is a career matter.
- Provide some proof and also some good testimonials.
I hired a guy and he did quite good job for me. So remember, to be successful in this program, you need to create a very good landing page, research some good long tail keywords and thats it.
So I hope you also get good results on such campaigns. Do post your results here.

Thanks for sharing. You’ve given me enough reason to try this strategy. Hope I don’t lose all my adword money.

PPC is a learning curve. Great affiliate program, great landing page, right keywords and continuous tweaking is the key.

You are most generous.
Could you recommend a sales copywriter?

hey jim,
what do you think which one is a better option..(not talking just about your this particular affiliate program that you performed.. but talking generally):
Using direct affiliate URL in the PPC program (URL to the owners website)… or first making a landing page (on my site)..where i will be telling the benefits of that particular program first… and from that landing page - I’ll send the person to owners website through affiliate link.
What do you say??.. In my opinion i would like to use the direct affiliate link (say for example an hosting affiliate website)…cauz at the owners website he would already be telling the benefits about his service.. whats the use of telling it on my site?…and moreover its very easy to do that.
What do you say… waiting for your reply.

and yes.. I would also like to know from you .. if you can recommend a sales copywriter?… i am also in search of one..

Whether to go for a landing page or directory to the affiliate site directly depends on how well the affiliate site provides the required information. Is the site just directly selling the product or is it providing enough information for the visitor to put him/her in complete ease to spend the the money.
About sales copyrighers, I used some friend of mine but I highly recommend DeniseK and jhmattern from DP (no affiliation with any of them).

I don’t have a clue why you would want to say that. If you are making money on something, wy be so stupid and tell exactly how you’re doing it? You’re just creating unecessary competion and you’re the one who’s most likely lose money. nyways…all the best, lol.

Did you advertise on the search or content network?
Mind telling what tools do you use to do keyword research?
Been a silent reader of this blog for quite sometime, decided to drop a comment today!
jimkarter responded on 13 Nov 2007 at 12:42 am #
I used Adwords (search only) and Yahoo Search Marketing for this purpose.
For keyword research I used Adword Keyword Research Tool, Overture Keyword Selector Tool, Google Trends and Wordtracker

It’s a little bit risky.
But could be worth it, if we find the correct program.
fido method responded on 15 Nov 2007 at 2:11 am #
I’ll try the technique soon.
but I need to do extra research on it…
which want do you think more profitable for you? Adwords or YSM?
jimkarter responded on 15 Nov 2007 at 3:31 am #
Yes its surely risky and need quite some research. And remember, these days its very difficult to make EASY money with PPC. It is getting difficult day by day as more and more competition is building up.
Between Adwords and YSM, YSM has less competition so it converts well for lower price but bring very less traffic. May be you can give it a try use free $100 YSM coupon or $50 Adwords coupons. That will give you some scope for testing.

You have mentioned about the generic steps one would use in adwords. Could you also mention where you got the landing page created.
It was generous enough of you to disclose the affiliate program. I would not have done that. Anyway any ideas on how to find a affiliate program. Probably an idea for your next post.

This is an older post, but if you see this comment I am interested in one thing that I can’t quite understand with aff marketing - when you start promoting a certain clickbank product - the link you get leads to the landing page of the product you are promoting. So if you run a PPC campaign, make your own landing page and include your affiliate link , that link leads the buyer from your landing page to another landing page. Is this correct? Because it seems confusing for the buyer :)?
Jim Karter responded on 25 Mar 2008 at 9:32 am #
Thats correct. You do what we say “pre sell” on your landing page and then direct the visitor to the affiliate sales page, which does the actual sale.
Loai responded on 05 Jun 2008 at 9:33 am #
