Using Those “Dirty Content Leeches”
I recently read a post by Randy Brown of GrownUpGeek about dirty content leeches. Leeches are those website which automatically grab your content from your RSS feeds and put it up on their websites. He seems to be pretty pissed off with people who leech (or stole) his hard earned content. In his blog he has suggested how you can stop it in a better way.
So, are these leeches actually that bad for us?
I disagree a little with Randy here. Whenever I make a post in my blog, I try to link it to either one of my earlier posts or some affiliate links which earn me some money. If somebody is leeching my content, there are 99% chance that it is being done automatically. In that case, your link to other post, or your link to your affiliate product is there on that website. Which can actually make you even some money. I have that experience myself. You want to see the example?

This is not a picture of leached content to be exact, but it is an example of content which was put as it is with my affiliate link (of text-link-ads.com). And, it resulted in one new registration/lead, making me $25 for that.
So, in a way, those leeches are a good way to get some backlinks (and some cash too). If you are little worried about duplicate content, read this:
- If you are worried about duplicat content then use the “more” tag in your posts, so that your posts are cut after summary and the person need to click on a link to read it further. That link will be link to your site. This way, the person will end up at your site.
- With respect to search engines, its not a big problem as search engines can see that you are the one who put up the post and the leeches are linking to it. So, if there is any chances of putting duplicate content panelty, it would be put on the other side, because google can see that all their posts are being copied from other sites.
- If you still don’t want your content to be copied, follow what Randy has said.
So, in my opinion, those leeches are not so bad after all. I know some people who have made those leaches as a part of their link-back strategy, making them getting good technorati ranks.

Yes in this case I agree with Jim as my one of the site blog is being automatically copied to one of the other blog i don’t who’s blog was that but than I used my blog to promote the website as i always put 2 to 3 links of my other sites which automatically copied on other blog so in that case i always get 2 back links.

Live them be, they cannot steal your unique content. People know which content it is. As you say the even earned you some cash.

Very True!! Instead of stopping leeching we should promote it… So we gain more money through visitors through our links in the post or through some conversions of affiliate programs..

When you use the phpbay eBay affiliate stuff you have to use the more tag, on one site I receive a 10% boost in profits from a half dozen scraper sites in total.
They don’t see that my site is ranked on page one which means their site will look like the dupe almost instantly? /shrug

Good idea. Already somebody is stealing my post, this should at least help to get a backlink to my site.
