Why Did You Get Started Making Money Online?
Let me ask one question to to you, my readers. Why (and how) did you get started in making money online?
Did you see your friend making some good money online? Did you read a story of a boy or a girl making immense money online? Or you started with eBay selling your stuff? Or was business headlines which put you into this field? What pushed you into thinking of making money online. How did you get to know there is some good money on the table (read internet) which you can pick up.
Why and How did I Started
Let me start with mine. When I was in college (the IT boom time, 1999), we three colleagues started an internet company which failed. After that I was just running a hobby hindi lyrics site for around 2 years. Then adsense was released. One of my friend from USA told me about how About.com is making so much money by just providing information (articles) to the people and using adsense.
I thought, how difficult it would be for me to make a site which is 1/100 of about.com in size? And, how difficult it would be for me to do it 100 times? Thats it. None of these two tasks looked very difficult to me. So I got started.
How about you? Why (and how) did you get started?
Welcome back!

I am not bad in writing. I get good traffic.
I don’t earn so much from adsense. Never got any adsense payment.
I get money from sponsors for my sites.

I started my online career because I was fascinated by the prospect of monetizing my passion. I am still as I was a few years back when I started, like a child under the Christmas tree when I think about my future projects. I absolutely love this career.

I started somewhat by accident. I built a site in mid-2000 that got very popular, and suddenly was making pretty good money. I’ve been hard at it every since then.

I started on the web back in 1994 when I was only 14. Back than I created a small web business called WebMarketing.net where we used to do here in Brazil what AdSense does now. It wasn’t fancy, actually we used to do almost everything manually, but it worked pretty well until we had the .com bubble and everything started to get dark for web business. I was very young and I decided to try different thing. After that I had a pillow factory, i worked as a sales manager, Market Intelligence supervisor, Procurement Speciallist and some non-web related corporations. Now, I’m back working in the web. To be honest I decided to get a blog for me because I’ve seen more than 100 adsense secrets books and more than a 1000 different ways to monetize a website. So, the question it always comes to my mind is: Which is true which is not? My monetize lab is intended to try all those ways. I should start soon, right now I’m working with the design.

Hello-
I got started becoming interested in making money online about 10 years ago, coincidentally, right when I had kids. I was working a regular “JOB” and wanted/needed more money to support my new family so I started looking for ways to make money. My first ventures were in MLM. That was fun! Lol.

Hey Jim,
Like you I was in college when I got started.
I was working at a sandwich bar for minimum wage 20-30 hours a week to pay for tuition.
I figured there had to be an easier way
My first start was in affiliate marketing which showed me it was possible to make money online.
After that I started building a list before coming out with my own products.
I’ve never looked back since! lol

Well, as a newbie, I really didn’t know what ads did… I just put some adsense ads on my forum (just because everyone else had them :P) and then one day I decided to check out my AdSense account… I had accumalated about $110… I checked it out immediately
From then, I replaced the AdSense ads with other netoworks like, TTZ Media and Bidvertisier, and earned the double of that…
Cheers

Before I got started online, I was working for a very large church. I would try to find stuff that I could pick up wholesale and resale it to the church for a little under retail. (To give them a deal, yet make money.) One of the items that I ended up getting for the church ended up being an item that I would sell online . My first website has allowed my wife to be a stay at home mom.

I was started back in 2000 with selling stuff on auction sites.Selling just things what I not needed anymore.I was selling on : iBazar later Ebay took it over and my sales went a lot better too. That time I made about 1000 dollar a month. When I had no stuff anymore to sell I was searching for wholesaler. But that time it was very very hard to find.In 2003 I started with my brother a webshop , just a free hosted site and went sky rocking high - after many test and changes and time we have now a costumer base of more then 50.000 make a turn over of between 50 en 80.000 US dollar a month.Profit is about 20 to 60%.Well 2 years ago I try websites like proxy sites , adult sites but find it very very hard and cost a lot of time to generate money out of it.I have about 15 of these sites and make about 500 dollar a month with adsense and other programs.
So I better stay what I can do good and thats sales.

I have not started making any money yet. The reason that I am trying this is because over the past two years I have lost most of my hearing. In the process of that have been forced to change a career. So there is not much hearing involved in internet marketing. But I have found that it can be harder than what I have expected. But I will prevail.

i think i started cos i knew a few things that i wanted to share with people (stuff for xbox and downloading movies etc).
So i started a blog and posted up my advice. i only get about 20 visitors a day through google, but was happy.
then i stumbled upon sites like this one and got the idea of creating a few more sites to earn money.
only 2 months into it, but i really enjoy it and would love to make big bucks from it one day.

I was encouraged when I read an experience of an affiliate marketer who make $45,000 a month and lately she said that she spent $250,000 on a month to do market research.
My goal is not being the person I read about, but to learn what she knows that I’ll achieve the same result or even more

I started going to baja as a kid with my father back in 1975. Almost every year we would travel to a different place in Baja exploring, fishing and more. When garmin came out with a gps device, I noticed no one had a baja topo for baja, I decided to make my own, as I am a fairly good programmer. I started my own site website bajagpsmaps.com which later became meximaps.com I started selling baja topo maps for the garmin GPS, which is now doing pretty good, and I am continuing to build the web site.

I was just another computer research student from india who created lots of programs, and contributions to online communities including programming, webmasters, and also hackers underground, but my parents couldnt give me enough money always for my research material, books, and I didnt even had enough money to buy a cd-writer drive to backup my creations from my old 10 gb hard disk based 11+ year old computer which had pentium 3 processor to my cd, because the cd-writer drive was very expensive around Rs.15,000 for a drive and the computer with internet was a kind of a luxury for us those days. and I was frustrated and wanted to be independent from my dad and make up my own money and pursue my research work.
I started making money since the begining of this year, and made up good 6-figure money since then.
Today I have 32+ domains and a web design + hosting company, while my parents are still couldnt believe what has happened to me in the past few months and im still in the same college, pursuing the next semester of my BCA course! LOL
Thats my true story.
