Bum Marketing Tips
I have been submitting my articles to various article directories (bum marketing). In last few months I tried to study few things at ezinearticles.com directory on what are the things that gets you high CTR in your resource box.
Here are some of the results (in the form of tips) for you to build your next bum marketing campaigns:
1. Better quality written articles will surely attract high CTR. Article written by a writer who charges $10 per article (and I know he writes quite good) have got much high CTR than the articles written by some other person for $5 per article.
2. Articles of about 275-300 words got high CTR than articles of 500-600 words (of similar quality). It seems people don’t have that much patience as we think.
3. Articles written in small paragraphs (3 to 4 lines in one paragraph) get high CTR than articles written in big paragraphs (6 to 8 lines per paragraph). I think it increases the readability and scanning power of the article. So person does reach at the bottom of the page.
4. Numbered list articles get more CTR than un-numbered list.
5. Link baiting type of articles surely get better CTR (like “10 ways to …”, “How not to do …”, “Top 10 things…” etc.)
6. Offering something free (related to article written) in resource box increases the CTR.
7. Longer titles get more page views (not sure why) but similar CTR, effectively bringing more traffic to the site.
8. Ezines, squidoo and your website, all three together works best. Instead of submitting all articles to articles directories, create some squidoo pages and try linking them.
I hope this bum marketing tips would be helpful to you when you write (or get it written) your next article for submission.

A good article and correctly pointed that submitting the content to too many article directories is not that much useful.
Quality directories makes the difference.

Also, ezinearticles.com is the article directory which seems to be liked by Google due to its good quality. So that should be a good choice for submission.

Good tips, but personally I don’t think that article submission to ezine and stuff really work these time. Social marketing work better.

@Zak Show
I think ezine and social marketing together will work better than only social marketing.
Jim Karter responded on 27 Jun 2008 at 12:15 pm #
Zak, I don’t agree with you on this one. And, if you are tying to sell something to your visitors, then bum marketing visitors will convert 100 times better than social marketed visitors.

I would totally agree with Jim, as Bum Marketing would be the best choice for getting high sales and conversions, in comparison with these two bum marketing would be the best ever strategy i would go for.
Thanks Jim for the tips those were really awesome
Cheers

maybe yes, but you can notice that people don’t care about these stuff no more. Digg, Twitter and all SB portals get tons of visits and have a big impact on people more than ezine.
I remember that i saw in the shoemoney blog in his question set someone was asking about article marketing submission tips and advices and shoemoney answer was that it’s a waste of time.
I think in a high professional level, it can be very important but with normal people it doesn’t worth the time spent.

Funny, I thought all articles had to be 400 words or more…Oh well. I just wrote my articles for link juice.

Hey Jim
that was really helpful but it is a bit surprising that longer titles attract more views!!! Guess the readers want to find out more about the title…
Jim tell me one thing how to attract CTR when the category itself is not that attractve?

ezine is good, but the rules are a bit tough, like you can’t put affiliate urls in the article, also only a top-level domain i.e. yoursite.com redirect to an affiliate link is allowed BUT not a yourdomain.com/page1 redirect is allowed!!
nice tips, the “10 ways…” always works!

Looks like u have implemented some of bum marketing things in this post
Nicely numbered and also small and understandable paragraphs and after reading one point we tempt to read the next one and hence we reach the bottom of the page

Good point. So, I think we can say that shorter writing is better as not all people like to read something long.

I had join some local seo contest and try articles submit as my strategy to gain permanent link but the result my article page on ezine was ranking well but on my site backlink there is no backlink from my articles. Do you know what happen?
Charles responded on 10 Jul 2008 at 5:14 am #
Good tips. I like to write quick 250 - 300 page articles for blogs, Hubpages, or Squidoo, then combine 2 together for an article for ezinearticles.com. Before submitting to the article directory, I edit and clean up the style.

You say that longer titles get more CTR - I’ve noticed differently.
Titles that are keyword targeted tend to get the highest CTR for me.
