Getting Best Out of BUM Marketing

People use bum marketing (or article marketing) for various reasons. Some of them use it to bring traffic to their website, which they monetize through adsense. Some of them use it to drive traffic to the site which they plan to sell soon (flipping websites). Some use it to advertise products from clickbank or from other affiliate networks.

I have tried bum marketing in various niche markets like gizmos, electronics, apparels, ebooks, softwares, medical products, and many others as well.

But bum marketing has worked best for me on the medical products. Specially those medical products, about which, people don’t prefer to discuss with their family/friends. For these type of products, they do their research online. Bum marketing at ezinearticles.com or other similar places are good places to present the product reviews for people to tell them which product actually works and which does not. If you are actually helping them in decision making, you will also make the money.

I have used article marketing for Amazon, eBay (through BANS), Clickbank, LECash and MarketHealth. Out of these last two worked the best.

I use a combination of squidoo lenses, hub pages, knol (recently added) and article directories to promote the product. I submit my articles to only 5 directories which I consider the best. Its just a do-it-and-forget-it process.

Have any of you use bum marketing for some specific product? How is it going? Please share.

I have been using ezine for a few weeks now and submitted 10 articles. The first 9 were approved no problem, now the 10th has been rejected twice!

Doubt I will get Platinum status now! Not happy.

    I use knol, hubpages too.

@condo, I am not sure why its called bum marketing. But yes, its like creating some articles and linking them to your website (or page) which recommends/reviews/sells a product.

@JML, I normally do 1 squidoo, 1 hub, 1 knol and 3 article-directory articles in one round for each product I promote. After seeing how it performs, I keep repeating those rounds.

@Neeraj, Those 5 articles to each directory would be unique but would be on very similar lines.

  9. AdSense Land responded on 20 Aug 2008 at 10:10 pm #

Submitting articles to article-directories works very well for monetizing through AdSense. Best one I have found in terms of conversion (to clicks) is ezinearticles.com

    Hi Jim,

Thanks for the post. Good stuff. Which 5 article directories are you using that you feel are the best? I think I will start using Squidoo and Hubpages more myself as time permits.

    Hey Jim,

Could you please advise me on whether i should place the same article i will be putting on the article directories on my blog as well?

Should i change them and then put them on?

Or should i just write separate material for article directories?

I have a subscription to an article marketing site. I paid a one time fee of $250 and I can sumbit articles to about 20 directories (including ezine) using that. I love it!

However, I was using this tool only for the backlinks to my site to build authority, and never thought about making my links to affiliates!
    Brilliant!

I also use the squidoo and hubpage idea and I also add in a blogsot and spread the feed from that all over the internet too!

What kind of content you put on squidoo, hub page? are they similar to content which you submit to article directory and then link from squidoo to your website?

Hey Jim, What % of your income is generated from bum marketing? I ask because from my personal experience, although bum marketing DOES make money, it seems smaller compared to other avenues of generating internet revenue.

    Thanks!

  21. Forex Robot Reviews responded on 28 Aug 2008 at 1:54 pm #

I have just noticed that Knol checks for copies of the articles elsewhere, it then displays them next to the article. Don’t really like that as I am lazy and just copy my articles across the different directories.

I like the “BUM” term used here. Lol! When it’s done right, posting articles that have great keywords in it’s content that corresponds great with adsense, it can be a huge success. People need to do keyword resaerch first.

Bum marketing is the best. Ezine is my favorite publisher, because not only do you get traffic from the links, but they pass a lot of link juice.

Jim is a hard-working guy; wouldn’t be surprised, but then the time for a follow up to the eChemotherapy study should be coming in a day or two now as the last one was on 11 Aug 2008.

@condo It is called bum marketing because it is for “lazy bum” marketers who don’t want to go through any pains of building/maintaining the website and yet earn easy money. Who doesn’t though?

ezinearticles is the fans favourite, but it can be very hard for marketeers to get platinum status. I submitted 9 top articles and then the 10th got flagged, meaning I go onto basic plus.

The key is do not get flagged if you want platinum!

  48. Zak Show responded on 19 Sep 2008 at 4:46 pm #

You shouldn’t rely only on ezine !

  58. Money While You Sleep responded on 04 Nov 2008 at 10:09 pm #

It was my understanding that it was called BUM marketing because it doesn’t cost anything to submit articles, whereas PPC costs money. Therefore it’s a way to “bum some traffic” i.e. get it for free.

  59. braveurl.com responded on 11 Nov 2008 at 8:09 pm #

I think the best article directory 4 me is enzinearticle, but one problem for me is they always denied my articles, they said my article is not fully grammared.. :(
