Case Study: Chemotherapy Site: Follow Up 5
This is the 5th follow up on the case study I was doing on my chemotherapy site at echemotherapy.com on how to make a site which can make you $1000/month at the end of one year.
I have not updated this case study for a long time due to my other commitments. So I will post the stats here for past three months.
If you are not aware of this case study, you can see my past few posts at here, here, here, here and here.

Here are the stats:
Traffic:
————-
July: 7,603
August: 8,245
September: 9,349
Earnings:
—————
July: Total: $62.61. [$47.28 from Adsense and $15.33 from Kontera.]
August: $118.46 [$83.92 from Adsense, $19.54 from Kontera and $15 private sale.]
September: $179.76 [$129.78 from Adsense, $24.98 from Kontera and $25 private sale.]
Other Details:
——————-
Total pages listed in Google as of today: 141
Page Rank: 3
Work done in last 2 months: Around 15 articles submitted through bum marketing and around 20 new articles added to the site.
Total time completed as of 30th September: Six and half months (five and half more months to go)
Whats Next?:
1. Continue bum marketing
2. Try to get some more good links
3. Try to sell some more advertising
Am I happy on how the site did in last 2/3 months?
Well not fully, it could have done better in last 2 or 3 months. But due to lack of my time to the site, it is lacking little bit behind. I think now it is time that I give it some more boost.

Can you elaborate more on BUM marketing or point me to some sites where I can get more info?
Jim Karter responded on 29 Oct 2008 at 11:22 pm #
wicked, bum marketing is a word for article marketing where you write some good articles and submit them to the article directories like ezinearticles.com with your 2 or 3 links. It brings some highly targeted traffic to your site.
And remember, one targeted visitors is much better than 10 non-targeted visitors.

Hello Jim, I watch your case study since the first one. May i know which type of content that getting the most popular? is it definition such as “what is chemotherapy”, or it is a niche chemotherapy such as “Rice chemotherapy” content that would never be found in other site/reference.
Regards,

Jim,
Glad to see an update on this case study. It seems that you ranking for the keyword “chemotherapy” has dropped. The last month or so you were on page 5-6 of SERPs, but now your site is not even in the first 15 pages. Is it because a lack of links being built to the homepage?
KF responded on 30 Oct 2008 at 10:52 am #
Jim,
A follow up question on the keywords that are getting the most searches to your site. I put in each of those exact keywords in Google and your site is does not come up on the first page for any of those (not even page 2-5). I think if your long-tail keyword is not on the first page of the SERPs you will most likely not getting any traffic from it. For only a couple of them your ezinearticle is on page 2 of the SERPs. Are you saying that the long tail keywords that you people are finding your site includes those terms you have mentioned in your post? Can you clarify this a bit. Thanks.

Thanks for the update Jim,
How do you do keyword research when you select page titles ? The titles you have slected seem ideal

Nice work so far. Do you think that you are still on pace to earning the $1000/month?
Buffit responded on 30 Oct 2008 at 2:19 pm #
Hi,
how many articles You are going to have to earn 1000/month ?
Jim Karter responded on 30 Oct 2008 at 9:03 pm #
KF, yes the ranking for homepage has dropped in the last two month due to the lack of attention. And yes, those keywords I mentioned are what the awstats is showing for my site.
ATT, the keyword research was done using “Google Adwords Keyword Tool.”
steve, I think if I give proper attention the site needs, I can still make it to $1000/month.
As of now I have submitted around 30 articles to ezine. I may submit some more, but those are not the only marketing I am doing.

Jim,
Great article. It seems the more pages I add to my sites and the more directories I submit them to.. the more traffic I get, plain and simple.
I’ve continued to see an increase in traffic over the past few months as well as an increase in adsense earnings.
Some buddies of mine are in to blog flipping which is basically just installing wordpress and adding articles. It is then sold for a few hundred dollars and up to someone else to index them, etc. Personally I enjoy the passive income..

Does this mean you’re not on track to do $1000? Your results are pretty good nevertheless.

You still done great jobs Jim. Congratz

Very Interesting that you use Article Marketing with this. Do you do any directory submissions or Social book Marking?
My problem is staying consistent. I know you have a team working with you but being one person I have a hard time writing 20 articles in a month and adding another 20 to my actual page.

Good to see you back and providing an update on this site.
It think you should be very happy with the results, your earnings have increased three fold but visitors have increased modestly, that is a great sign.
Keep building and earnings could increase exponentially.
Another Jim!

Your articles you submit to your article directories, and also the articles in eChemotherapy.com, are they all written by you, or by someone else.
Do you ever just get your articles from wiki.
Does it work it you do?
ie) you take just a huge chunk of info from Wiki, and then just reword it.
Thanks
Jim Karter responded on 04 Nov 2008 at 4:25 am #
One member of my team writes them. No articles are taken from wiki.
Envirogle responded on 07 Nov 2008 at 9:25 pm #
Thanks for that Jim.
It’s just that, there are some non-native English speaking people wanting to make content sites that are not able to because it is really expensive if you purchase the content.
If the site has 50 articles, really isn’t a huge figure, buying them would cost $10/article for a reasonable article, that would be $500, just for content, and before you know it you have used $700 to get the site up and then they have to try and earn that back.
For most that will take a year. So it is not always a great idea, and not many get that.

The traffic details are great considering its a static site
and money its earning in it starting days is also appreciable.

Hi,
I tried article submission to ezinearticles.com but they are very strict. The articles have to be more than certain number of words. The link to your own site cannot be placed on the first paragraph and so on.
Then the wait for the first article to be approved.
Can you recommend some other article submission sites that you used. Thanks.

Wow congrtls!. I have watched your case study since first time and now your blog’s earning is higher than mine eventhough my blog is elder than yours. I think i should follow your steps.
Jim Karter responded on 11 Nov 2008 at 9:35 pm #
Yes, they are strict, and that is why there is value in it.

Hi Jim,
I have been following this case study. I just want to ask, what do you mean by “private sale”?
I don’t see any private ads in your eChemotherapy website.
Thanks!

Hello Jim,
I have a question about bum marketing.. I found a few articles on http://ezinearticles.com/ with the links to your chemotherapy site… The thing is most of those articles publisher by “Kate Savage is a physician in Boston and working for Appolo clinic. She specializes in anti-aging treatment and growth related research.”
Is there a way to publish an article by verified publisher with good reputation?
sanket responded on 22 Dec 2008 at 10:07 am #

@ Jim
Hey Jim, Thats true, you have started this case study with out mentioning money you spent on content, Please provide us clear idea of amount you spending on content
your ezinearticles.com articles written by Kate Savage, i m sure she will not change less than USD 25 Per article.
I do not have doubt on Jim, as I have implemented techniques of Jim and got positive response..
People who start new website they just get tired because they are not aware about Google Sandbox Effect i.e Google never rank New website for first six month for competitive keyword, you can rank for long tails keywords .. hope Jim will explain this better to other
