Are Adsense Publishers in Panic?
In last one week many US publishers received this email from Google Adsense team. The content of the email is this:
Dear Publisher,
We understand that the recent economic turmoil has created a lot of uncertainty in the lives of AdSense publishers. During these difficult times, we’re continuing to invest in innovations that improve publisher monetization and advertiser value in the content network.
We’re focusing on further developing our product offerings and boosting ad performance for publishers. We recently announced advancements in AdSense for search and experiments to make ads more effective. We’re bringing DoubleClick technologies to AdSense publishers, and we’ll continue to launch new products and features. We’re also continuing to improve our offerings for AdWords advertisers, making it easier for them to target the Google content network. Features for advertisers, such as the new display ad builder, are designed to improve ad performance on AdSense publisher sites.
We’ll keep driving technological progress, but our best asset will always be our publisher partners. The strength of AdSense lies in the value of the content you bring to users and the quality of the sites you bring to advertisers. Our success is tied to yours. We look forward to partnering with you for the long term, and remain dedicated to helping you succeed.
Sincerely,
Kim Scott

Does this mean that the Google publishers are in panic and leaving the Adsense for something else?
Is it that the global financial turmoil has started taking its toll on Google?
I think there will be some industries and their advertisers who will pull their advertising from Adwords to save some money in cutting costs. So the publishers in those industries must be earning quite less. Also, I think not all the publishers are net savy and know that what Adsense is sort of a best choice for them. They may not be knowing them and shifting to other networks.
What do you think about it? Is the a sign of coming bad economic time?

Yeah Recession has started but hardly it will effect Internet Business. I think web publishers will have like constant time and no down fall, and the business not growing and running idle in same speed itself is like a correction for the business.

I think just the opposite, many people now during this hard times will be trying to find money on the internet, so make money online niche will not be affected.

I think they are confident, with good reasons. Harder will require more ROI and flexibility.
Thus standard advertisement (paper press, TV) will decline and online contextual ad will increase its ratio.
Their email sounds only positive.

The first comment by abhishek is hilarious how can the recession not affect the online market is the online world detached from the real world do the people shop online come from some world other than this one ? because if people are affected and have less money they will tend to shop lesser and lesser online

I agree with bernard, they will try to increase sales and keep publishers happier to do not let them leave!

in america right now, all industries are obsessed with the recession. everyone wants to say something to seem proactive, if nothing else.

I’ve exploring alternatives to Adsense, my sites don’t perform that well w/ adsense blocks because consumers are trained to think of sites that have that type of advertising on them as lower quality.

I can’t imagine what would be the situation next year, when other industries actually will feel the heat than the finance industries facing now. Snowball effect is yet to come!

Very interesting.
Times are hard for everyone, we would be silly to think it won’t affect the likes of Google. If there is less money around, there is less money around for all.

like it or not this economic turmoil will surely effect us. Now all countries are taking major step to prepare and counter this problem.

I think Google is mainly worried about those publishers who can now start thinking that Adsense is no more performing well and can move to other networks.
But it is really very difficult (not impossible) to find a network to “replace” the adsense ads.

I don’t think Webmasters/Bloggers are leaving Adsense at all.
I think most are just going out and getting jobs. I guess this makes them feel more secure, and with a job, they have less time to further develop their site(s).
This may bring down their Adsense earning(s), and in turn make Google, a bit scared.

Replacing adsense would be very difficult, It is in my opinion the best PPC program out there, as far as delivering relevant ads.
My only complaint is that I wish the advertisers would write more appealing ads. That and they paid more per click

When I received this e-mail, I was wondering whether to panic or not. They made the e-mail sound so “positive” that it’s quite weird.

@ Armaan Bhati
Not many people do know why they were banned, Google doesn’t normally tell you why you were banned, they just ban you without questioning.
Read through Google’s TOS and make sure you didn’t do anything Google doesn’t like.
@ Zak Show
Only the high earners got it.

well, the whole world seems to be in a panic right now. i don’t think adsense is any more or less so, same goes for the advertisers that use it.
i don’t think anything will become clear until the new year. i’m just going to sit tight and watch the drama and the bailout unfold, and then make a plan.
Webmaster responded on 06 Nov 2008 at 7:32 am #
I don’t panic since my sites don’t perform well with adsense

Google doesn’t necessarily have to be in panic, and I don’t think Google is in panic at all.
They just can see that on average a lot of webmaster’s adsense earnings are falling, so they are just reassuring them everything will be fine.
If however adsense earnings on average was the same or slightly increasing, I am pretty sure Google, wouldn’t have sent out that email, as they wouldn’t feel the need to.

It is “firing times” at Google these days… Here are some comments from one of the person working at Google:
Recent change in behavior here at Google… it used to be nearly impossible to get fired for general underperformance, but about a week ago word went out to managers that this was a good time to get rid of any people who were underperforming. There have been a couple people I know who got called into meetings with HR and told they were being let go and given a week to “say goodbye to people and come up with whatever story they wanted about why they were leaving.”

I believe many publisher have more than one income stream,so the google earning still can be backup from other sources.
