One Link At A Time, Earning Trust
Many people ask this question to me about my link building strategy. People ask me how many backlinks they should get in a day so that they don’t come under any Google scanner or penalty.
Well the answer is not very simple. In some cases it can be just one link in two days, but in others even 5 links a day is fine. The formula here is “consistency.” The link building process for a site should be consistent and should not look artificial. 1000 links in one month and 1 link in second month will surely look suspicious and can invoke some Google filter.
Also, there are two more things you need to remember. First, avoid site-wide links for new sites. Try to get in-content links instead of links in the sidebar or footer, and that too from related sites. Slow and steady link building will get you that trust needed to rank your site.
Have patience. Patience pays in this business. I have seen many people loosing out patience and selling their website when they are about to complete one year. Build links very slowly and steadily. For first few months, try to get backlinks from only very-related sites. Then, with time you can extend your circle and can get links for less related (but still somewhat related) sites.
Please remember, related PR4 links is much valuable that non-related PR6 link. Thats my philosophy.

Very true Jim, I’ve seen so many sites just give up when they have good content and style. The owners lose their patience and just give up.
One of my sites was making .05 to .20 a day for 6 months. I didn’t give up and now it pulls in $20 a day. Keep pluging away slowly and you will get there, new in the toughest niches.

Jim, you say that one shouldn’t buy sitewide backlinks for a new site. However I see that you have bought sitewide backlinks for the echemotherapy site.

Thanks Jim, I was wondering how Google could find this out? What about other search engines like Yahoo and MSN, are they not involved in this business again.Terms like “google filter” make me wonder though. Thanks

it’s enough to make me want to give up altogether…it’s hard enough just building any links at ALL. now to try to differentiate among good links and poor links. it’s enough to make your head spin!

Is this possible with even low paying keywords ? Is it worth trying to optimize a site with low paying keywords this way ?

We have seen things chage drastically online everyday so we need to always follow with the trend.

I’ve been sandboxed by Google. I suspect that the 1000s of links from DP signature have made them suspicious.
Bummer!

Hi Jim,
Could you recommend a good service for link building? I’m looking for a low priced marketing package to use on my niche websites on a regular basis.
Do you have one to recommend?

In content links are gold. These are excellent for link building as well as decreasing the bounce rate of your website and keeping page views to a maximum.

I think consistency is the name of the game not the number. We must also stress on getting quality and in content links.

True it is! Link Building is hot in the eyes of search engines but the good thing about link building is that it allows you to actually create your network and establish your site.
